The Society of Black Academic Surgeons recognizes that its members are its most valuable asset. Membership on SBAS committees is open to any member in good standing. We believe that this structure promotes inclusivity and allows members to explore different interest areas.
Committee member terms are for 3 years, which may be extended indefinitely, provided the member maintains a current SBAS member status and continues to participate in the committee. The committee term will begin and conclude at the time of the Annual Meeting, regardless of join date. Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs will review committee members whose terms are expiring for reappointments on an annual basis. Attendance and participation during committee calls, as well as participation in committee projects, will be taken into consideration. If an SBAS member is not reappointed, they may re-apply during the next open committee meeting period.
Please see the SBAS Committees webpage if you would like to learn more about the mission of each committee. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the SBAS Office at info@sbas.net.
