Call for Abstracts

The Program Committee of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS) cordially welcomes your participation in its Thirty-sixth Annual Scientific Meeting hosted by Rutgers Health – New Jersey Medical School, Department of Surgery.

SBAS members, hospital/teaching faculty (national and international), fellows, residents, and medical students are invited to submit abstracts on research topics of your choice. One is not required to be an SBAS member to submit an abstract.

Submission begins March 3, 2026.
Submission ends April 16, 2026, at 5:00PM ET.

Accepted abstracts from residents and fellows will be eligible for the Claude H. Organ, Jr., MD Resident Award and abstracts from medical students will be eligible for the Onye Emmanuel Akwari, MD Award. Each award is given to the top scoring presentation.

The American Journal of Surgery/SBAS Award will recognize the top-scoring abstract in each of five categories, as determined by the SBAS Program Committee. Each recipient will receive a $500 award. To receive the award funds, recipients are required to submit an accompanying manuscript to the AJS/SBAS issue by December 1st.

In addition, all accepted abstracts are strongly encouraged to submit an accompanying manuscript to the American Journal of Surgery.
