University of Washington – Surgical Outcomes Research Center
Seattle, WA

The Centers for Comparative and Health Systems Effectiveness (CHASE Alliance) and the Surgical Outcomes Research Center (SORCE) at the University of Washington invite applications for a 2-year post-doctoral research fellowship in surgical outcomes and health services research in digestive disease interventions. This opportunity focuses on combining outcomes research experience and rigorous graduate level didactic training to produce well-trained clinical, outcomes, and health services researchers with an emphasis on digestive disease interventions. In addition to completing a Masters in Public Health degree (or similar degree program or course curriculum), fellows in this training program will become involved with a variety of research projects and initiatives relating to digestive diseases and/or obesity and nutrition. This training program offers exposure to 5 core areas central to health services and outcomes research (administrative dataset analysis, patient-centered outcomes and patient preference assessment, health economics, healthcare policy, and clinical research development) and aims to produce well-rounded health services researchers who go on to become productive contributing members of the academic surgery and health services research communities. Fellows are offered a salary and benefits commensurate with their level of experience. Some tuition and travel support is also available. Funding for this fellowship is made possible by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Trainees must be US citizens, permanent residents, or non-citizen nationals. One position is available each year, with a start date of July 1. Applications for July 2013 are due December 15, 2011. Applications for positions starting in July of later years are due 18 months in advance of position start, on December 15. Visit the SORCE website for more information.
